About baroquemusic.it

baroquemusic.it is a digital collection of modern editions of music from the 17th and 18th century, dedicated to amateur and professional musicians. The scores are transcribed from original printed or manuscript sources using LilyPond, an open source project, to generate urtext editions. Selection of authors and music favors unedited music and less known authors.

Founded in 2005, baroquemusic.it now (January 2022) collects over 1090 scores with separate parts and midi files, for over 42.000 pages of baroque music. About 80 new scores are added every year.

About the editor

baroquemusic.it is personally owned, edited, and maintained by Mario Bolognani.

Management consultant and former teacher at the Polytechnic of Milan, University of Pisa, University “Magna Graecia” and University of Rome “Sapienza”, Mario was involved, since 1964, in early music studying and playing. For many years he was playing the baroque “flauto traversiere” in "Diletto Barocco", a chamber orchestra in Rome (Italy), whose components are professional and amateur musicians, involved in a project for giving new life to unpublished and/or rarely executed music scores.

From April 2016 Ernesto Sparago is cooperating with the editor in the effort of selecting and transcribing new scores. He is graduated in pianoforte and composition at “Conservatorio di Salerno”, and in musicology at “Pontificio Istituto di  Musica Sacra”. He is deeply involved in research, studies and public performances on early music, with focus on baroque music.

Since August 2018, Paolo Cantamessa, a widely know baroque musician, is cooperating with me in the effort of editing new transcriptions. He received his diploma in modern violin at Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi”, Torino, where he also studied composition. He received a degree in Baroque violin from the Scuola Civica di Milano where he had been studying with Enrico Gatti and attended specialization courses held by Sigiswald Kuijken at Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels. He teaches Baroque violin at the Academy of Music School of Fiesole and plays regularly with I Turchini (A. Florio), Les Talens Lyriques (C. Rousset), Accademia Montis Regalis (A. de Marchi), Modo Antiquo (F.M. Sardelli), Ensemble Aurora (E. Gatti), Divino Sospiro and Accademia Bizantina (O. Dantone). Paolo plays a Sebastian Klotz violin made in 1742.
